Walter Lilly demonstrates it’s commitment to it’s staff by implementing the following staff training and development activities:
- Annual Personal Reviews carried out by immediate Line Managers, that allow for feedback to and from the employee regarding their job performance, professional development and training requirements. All Personal Reviews are commented on by a Senior Manager / Director and training requests approved where appropriate.
- A comprehensive safety training programme is implemented which covers the 5 day CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme and First Aid, which are a mandatory requirement for all production staff along with CSCS accreditation. Further courses in scaffold awareness, working at height, etc are also arranged and there is scope for site specific training to be arranged if necessary e.g. confined spaces. Our Surveying and Commercial Staff are required to attend a two day ‘Preparing for Health & Safety’ Course, which focuses on the responsibilities of staff who visit site regularly. This course has been designed from the CITB SMSTS curriculum.
- Walter Lilly compiles a training schedule as a result of the feedback from the Personal Reviews that covers IT, management, soft skills and specific technical training requirements. Examples include Negotiation Skills, Leadership Skills and Teambuilding, Effective Meetings, Presentation Skills and contractual issues such as the JCT 2005 suite of contracts as well as the NEC and GC Works forms.
- A number of Walter Lilly staff have undertaken the CIOB EPA (Experienced Practitioner Assessments) route to accreditation, sponsored by the Company, and this has become an ongoing training opportunity to encourage our staff to acquire their professional memberships.
The Board at Walter Lilly believe that investment in training benefits not only the individual but also the Company and the projects that we work on, by providing a highly skilled and competent workforce. As a measure of it’s commitment approximately £100,000 per annum is expendend on staff development and training.
Although Walter Lilly has not pursued Investors in People accreditation, many of it’s requirements are covered by the procedures we already have in place.
